Customer Reviews:
soothing nasal gel
This is an excellent product that fills an important niche. I am unable to use saline rinses because they block the eustacian tube of my right ear. But I have allergies & use nasonex & astelin, which are drying. This gel is great because it is moisturizing, & is mild & soothing. Moreover (& this is a big plus) it has a long nozzle that fits into the nose. Other gels require using a Q Tip, which is a nuisance. I love this product! PS: the tube seems small, but it provides an amazingly large number of applications.
Contains Parabens
I purchased Breath-ease Nasal Moisturizer Gel several years ago, sight unseen. I tried it and liked it. But after reading an article about toxic ingredients in personal care products, I read the label and found it contained Methylparaben and Propylparaben, preservatives that have been linked to cancer.
Because parabens generally make up less than 1 percent of total product formulations, they are considered safe by many manufacturers and ingredient-specialists. However, a study conducted at England’s University of Reading found that parabens can enter the body through the skin. The study, published in the January 2004 Journal of Applied Toxicology found that 18 of 20 breast tumors contained significant concentrations of parabens!
Being a cancer survivor, I no longer buy products containing Parabens. Fortunately, an increasing number of natural personal care companies are using alternative preservatives such as potassium sorbate, grapefruit seed extract, etc. As I said, I bought this product some years back. Hopefully Grossan will reformulate the product to eliminate Parabens.
For nasal dryness, I recommend Ponaris Nasal Emollient. It is a clear, light liquid, which contains oils of pine, eucalyptus, peppermint, cajeput, cottonseed oil and iodine. I know it sounds pungent but it is really quite mild and soothing. I apply it with a Q-Tip for instant nasal comfort. Ponaris contains no parabens. Nor mineral oil or petroleum either. The oils in Ponaris are assimilable (petroleum products are not–and in rare cases have caused respiratory (lung) disease due to inhaling traces of Vaseline put in the nose).
Very useful after surgery
I was worried this would be irritating, but it really helped after having sinus/turbinate surgery, and also when starting on CPAP. I only use it occasionally now, since my very large turbinate reduction (THANK GOD) left me with a bit of a dry nose. Totally worth it. Surprisingly useful product! Especially good to use saline spray or rinse first, then this stuff to lock in the moisture.
